Others are about experiencing it together.

WHY IT'S ONE OF MY GO-TO FAMILY GETAWAYS
Jackson Hole is one of those destinations that feels adventurous without feeling overwhelming.
Families can spend the day spotting moose, bison, and bears, take a scenic float down the Snake River, ride horses through the mountains, or simply enjoy the incredible views.
The key is choosing the right place to stay and building an itinerary that leaves room to enjoy it all instead of trying to check every attraction off a list.
WHO I WOULD & WOULDN'T SEND TO JACKSON HOLE & GRAND TETON
Every family pictures a western vacation a little differently.
Jackson Hole is a fantastic fit for some travelers, and probably not the best choice for others.
JACKSON HOLE IS A GREAT FIT IF...

Your family loves wildlife and national parks.
-
You enjoy spending time outdoors without roughing it.
-
You're looking for a memorable bucket-list vacation.
-
You want experiences that appeal to both kids and adults.

You enjoy scenic drives and beautiful landscapes.
I'D PROBABLY RECOMMEND SOMETHING ELSE IF...
-
You're looking for a beach vacation.

You want nightlife or big-city attractions.
-
You dislike driving between activities.
-
You're hoping to spend most of your vacation shopping or sightseeing in town.
-
You'd rather relax at one resort than explore the surrounding area.
BEST TRIP LENGTH FOR JACKSON HOLE & GRAND TETON
For most families, I would look at:
4 NIGHTS
A great option if Jackson Hole is your primary focus and you're looking for a long weekend filled with wildlife and outdoor adventure.
5-6 NIGHTS
My favorite recommendation for most families. It gives you enough time to enjoy Grand Teton National Park, experience Jackson Hole, and leave room for unexpected wildlife sightings or a slower day at the resort.
7+ NIGHTS
Perfect for families combining Jackson Hole with Yellowstone, a dude ranch stay, or additional time exploring Wyoming.
WHERE I'D START IN JACKSON HOLE
Where you stay in Jackson Hole shapes the entire trip. Some families want to stay in the heart of downtown Jackson, while others prefer waking up closer to Grand Teton National Park. Choosing the right home base makes it easier to enjoy everything the area has to offer without spending your vacation constantly in the car.
FOUR SEASONS RESORT JACKSON HOLE
If your family wants a western adventure without sacrificing comfort, this is one of the first places I'd consider.
The location, service, and family-friendly amenities make it an excellent base for exploring the area while still giving everyone a comfortable place to unwind.
Best fit: Families celebrating a milestone, luxury travelers, and anyone wanting a full-service mountain resort.
Watch-out: Premium pricing reflects the property's location and service, especially during peak seasons.
SPRINGHILL SUITES JACKSON HOLE
One of my favorite recommendations for families looking for a comfortable, practical home base within walking distance of downtown Jackson.
Best fit: Families who plan to spend most of their time exploring the parks while still wanting modern accommodations and breakfast included.
Watch-out: This works best as a launching point for adventure rather than a destination resort.
SNAKE RIVER LODGE & SPA
For families who want to feel immersed in the mountains, Snake River Lodge offer the classic Jackson Hole lodge experience. Located in Teton Village, it's an excellent base for exploring Grand Teton National Park while giving families comfortable accommodations to return to each evening.
Best fit: Families looking for a mountain lodge atmosphere, easy access to outdoor adventures, and a property that feels like part of the vacation.
Watch-out: Teton Village is quieter than downtown Jackson. If your family wants to walk to a variety of restaurants and shops each evening, staying in downtown Jackson may be a better fit.
HOW I TYPICALLY HELP WITH JACKSON HOLE & GRAND TETON TRIPS
Jackson Hole works well for either Planning-Only or Full-Service Planning.
With Planning-Only, I create a Personalized Travel Plan with my recommended accommodations, suggested activities, dining ideas, and trusted booking resources. I provide the Personalized Travel Plan. You make the reservations.
With Full-Service Planning, I take care of the research, reservations, coordination, and trip details so you can focus on looking forward to the adventure instead of managing all the moving pieces.
The best fit depends on whether you'd like to book the trip yourself or hand the planning and reservations off to me.
WHAT FAMILIES USUALLY GET WRONG
The biggest mistake I see is trying to squeeze too much into one trip.
Other common mistakes include:
-
Trying to "do" both Grand Teton and Yellowstone in too few days.
-
Underestimating driving times.
-
Booking accommodations based on only price instead of location.
-
Forgetting that wildlife doesn't follow a schedule.
-
Filling every day with activities instead of leaving room to enjoy the scenery.
Some of the best moments in Jackson Hole happen when you slow down enough to notice them.

JACKSON HOLE & GRAND TETON FAMILY TRAVEL | FAQ
Is Jackson Hole a good destination for families?
Absolutely. Families who enjoy wildlife, outdoor adventure, and beautiful scenery often find Jackson Hole to be one of the most memorable vacations they ever take. The key is matching the accommodations and activities to your family's travel style.
Should we visit Grand Teton or Yellowstone?
If time allows, both are incredible. However if you're working with a shorter trip, I often recommend focusing on Grand Teton rather than trying to focus on trying to rush through both parks. It's usually a more enjoyable experience.
Do we need a rental car?
In most cases, yes. A rental car provides the flexibility to explore the parks, enjoy the scenic drives, and stop whenever wildlife appears, often one of the highlights of the trip.
Is Jackson Hole only for experienced outdoor travelers?
Not at all. One of the reasons it's on my list is that you can experience incredible scenery and wildlife without needing to be an experienced hiker or camper. With the right accommodations and a thoughtfully planned trip, Jackson Hole is accessible to many different types of families.
Should I choose Planning-Only or Full-Service Planning?
If you prefer making your own reservations but want expert guidance first, Planning-Only includes a Personalized Travel Plan with recommended accommodations, activities, dining ideas and trusted booking resources.
If you'd rather have the planning, reservations, and coordination handled for you, Full-Service Planning is likely the better fit.
