PALM SPRINGS FAMILY TRAVEL PLANNING

Not every family vacation needs a packed itinerary.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones where you spend less time rushing from place to place and more time enjoying where you are.

Palm Springs is one of my favorite recommendations for families who want sunshine, beautiful resorts, and enough built-in activities that everyone, including Mom, gets to enjoy the vacation.

WHY IT'S ONE OF MY GO-TO FAMILY GETAWAYS

Palm Springs reminds people that a great vacation doesn't have to be busy.

The right resort gives kids plenty to do while parents finally get a chance to slow down. Instead of spending every day driving between attractions, you can settle into a rhythm that actually feels like a break.

It's one of those destinations where choosing the right property makes all the difference.

WHO I WOULD & WOULDN'T SEND TO PALM SPRINGS

Every family relaxes differently.

Palm Springs is perfect for some and not the right fit for others.

PALM SPRINGS IS A GREAT FIT IF...

  • You want a resort vacation more than a sightseeing vacation.

  • Your family enjoys spending time by the pool.

  • You like a slower pace with room to relax.

  • You appreciate beautiful properties with thoughtful amenities.

  • You want everyone, including the adults, to enjoy the vacation.

I'D PROBABLY RECOMMEND SOMETHING ELSE IF...

  • You want nonstop sightseeing every day.

  • You're looking for beaches or waterfront activities.

  • You dislike warm weather.

  • You prefer destinations with a busy downtown atmosphere.

  • You want a vacation built around amusement parks or nightlife.

BEST TRIP LENGTH FOR PALM SPRINGS

For most families, I would look at:

3 NIGHTS

A great long weekend if your goal is to unwind, enjoy the resort, and soak up some sunshine.

4-5 NIGHTS

My favorite recommendation for most families. It gives you time to settle in, enjoy the resort, and explore a few nearby attractions without feeling rushed.

6+ NIGHTS

Perfect for families who truly want to slow down, relax, and enjoy everything the resort has to offer.

WHERE I'D START IN PALM SPRINGS

The resort often becomes a major part of the vacation in Palm Springs.

That's why I spend more time choosing the right property than building a packed itinerary.

OMNI RANCHO LAS PALMAS RESORT & SPA

One of my favorite recommendations for families thanks to its lazy river, water slides, spacious grounds, and a balance of family fun with spaces where adults can relax.

Best fit: Families with school-age children who want a resort that keeps everyone happy.

Watch-out: This is a popular family resort, so holidays and spring break dates book early.

HYATT REGENCY INDIAN WELLS RESORT & SPA

This resort combines multiple pools, family activities, and spacious accommodations with a polished feel that works well for both kids and adults.

Best fit: Families looking for an upscale resort experience without sacrificing family-friendly activities.

Watch-out: Because there's so much to enjoy at the resort, many families end up spending more time there than they originally planned, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

LA QUINTA RESORT & CLUB

For families wanting a quieter, more relaxed experience, La Quinta offers beautiful grounds, multiple pools, and a classic desert resort atmosphere.

Best fit: Families with older children, couples traveling with kids, and celebration trips.

Watch-out: The property is spread out, so some rooms require a bit more walking than others.

HOW I TYPICALLY HELP WITH PALM SPRINGS TRIPS

Palm Springs works well for either Planning-Only or Full-Service Planning.

With Planning-Only, I create a Personalized Travel Plan with my recommended resort, suggested activities, dining ideas, and trusted booking resources. I provide the Personalized Travel Plan. You make the reservations.

With Full-Service Planning, I handle the planning, reservations, coordination, and trip details so everything is organized before you arrive.

The best choice depends on whether you'd like to make the reservations yourself or hand the planning and bookings off to me.

WHAT FAMILIES USUALLY GET WRONG

Palm Springs isn't about trying to see everything.

Common mistakes include:

  • Booking a resort that doesn't match how your family likes to vacation.

  • Filling every day with activities instead of enjoying the property.

  • Visiting during the hottest summer months without understanding the desert climate.

  • Underestimating how much driving is involved between some communities.

  • Assuming every resort offers the same family amenities.

Sometimes the best day in Palm Springs is the one where nothing is scheduled.

WHY PALM SPRINGS IS ON MY LIST

Palm Springs fits my philosophy because it gives families permission to slow down.

The right resort makes it easy for kids to stay entertained while parents finally get a chance to relax. Nobody has to spend the week figuring out what comes next because the property already offers so much.

That's exactly the kind of vacation I love recommending.

IS PALM SPRINGS RIGHT FOR YOUR FAMILY?

If you're looking for sunshine, beautiful resorts, and a vacation where everyone gets a chance to recharge, Palm Springs may be exactly what you're looking for.

And if after talking through your trip I think another destination would fit your family better, I'll tell you that too.

My job isn't to recommend Palm Springs.

It's to recommend the trip that's right for your family.

Not sure if Palm Springs the right choice? That's exactly what our consultation is for. We'll talk through your family's travel style, priorities, and goals before deciding on the destination.

PALM SPRINGS FAMILY TRAVEL | FAQ

Is Palm Springs a good destination for families?

Absolutely. While it's often associated with golf and spa vacations, Palm Springs also offers excellent family resorts, outdoor adventures, and attractions that work well for children of all ages.

When is the best time to visit Palm Springs?

The most comfortable weather is typically from October through May. Summers can be extremely hot, making them better suited for travelers who plan to spend most of their time in the pool.

Is Palm Springs all about golf?

Not at all. Families can enjoy resort pools, Joshua Tree National Park, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens, shopping, and great dining.

Is Palm Springs a good destination with young children?

Yes, especially if you choose the right resort. Many of my favorite properties offer family pools, splash areas, spacious accommodations, and enough on-site activities that the resort becomes part of the vacation itself.

Should I choose Planning-Only or Full-Service Planning for Palm Springs?

If you enjoy making your own reservations but want expert recommendations first, Planning-Only includes a Personalized Travel Plan with my recommended resort, suggested activities, dining ideas and trusted booking resources.

If you'd rather me manage the reservations and planning from start to finish, Full-Service Planning is likely the better fit.
